Sustainable Brand: Matter Prints

Fair fashion has the bad reputation of being boring and basic. It took me some time until I found MATTER: a brand that makes fashionable and responsible clothes.

Socially responsibility and transparency it’s at the core of MATTER. Their philosophy focus on:
– slow production by choosing quality over quantity
– slow design by collaborating with rural artisans and let them incorporate their cultural heritage in the patterns and techniques
– slow fashion by creating timeless pieces
From design to production the garment takes up to 6 months.

On these series of pictures, I´m wearing the “Sideswept Dhoti Trikora” pants. Inspired by the multifold drapes of the Indian dhoti, this version comes in the geometric Trikora pattern. This pants were weaved in Pochampally and were stitch in Delhi. The material is 100% cotton, selectively bundled and dyed by hand with azo-free dyes, the threads are then hand-loomed.
The pictures were made by the talented photographer Marisa Broekhuizen Check her work HERE.

Sustainable Brand: Jan ‘n June

Yes! I found another fair and ethical fashion brand. This time I want to introduce you to Jan ‘n June. Jula and Anna started the eco-fashion label out of personal need for stylish, sustainable and affordable clothes. Back in 2013, fair fashion wasn’t easy to find.  After a summer night and a couple of wine glasses, they decided to start with one.

Transparency it´s at the core of Jann ‘n June. For Jula and Anna is very important to produce the clothes as responsible as possible with the environment and the garment workers. The clothes are produced in Wroclaw, Poland in a family-owned factory, where the girls keep an eye on the production. They visit the manufacturer on regular basis to define the workmanship for each article and auditing the factory. They only work with one partner in order to keep it simple and transparent. All the materials come from Turkey, Portugal or India and are GOTS or IVN Best certified. On every garment, you can read about the origin of it.

On these series of pictures, I´m wearing the dress “Cannes Flow Black” from Jan ‘n June. The pictures were made in Amersfoort by the photographer Mitchel Lensink.

Yellow Outfit Ideas

The color yellow represents sunshine, happiness, positivity, clarity, energy and other positive feelings. Still, it is a complicated color to use on a regular basis. I wanted to experiment a little bit more with that color and realized that I do like it, and it fits good with my skin color. While second-hand hunting I found this yellow top and I made it part of my 33 items.
Hese are my favorite pictures wearing it:

I HAVE BEEN WEARING THE SAME CLOTHES OVER AND OVER AGAIN

Today it’s been a month since I started the challenge 333. I have been repeating my outfits over and over again. When I think about it, it sounds crazy and it makes me feel that it is not possible to live like that, but now that I see it on my pictures I feel confident that it´s totally ok.

This is how my last week looked like:

On my day to day, I sometimes forget that I am doing this challenge. It´s only when I see the pictures that I realize that I wear the same black destroyed jeans and the golden shoes at least twice per week. It´s great to document my outfits to realized it. Another thing that I have noticed is that none one of my friends or my colleagues have told me anything negative about my clothes or asked me why I repeat clothes so often. I thought it would be obvious but I guess that was only in my head. It´s been only one month but I feel that I have gained the confidence to wear my clothes over and over again. I chose clothes that I feel good in, this makes it easier to repeat outfits. I consciously change the color of my lipstick or I use a choker or a bandana or even change my hairstyle to give it a little twist to my look.

During the month of June, these were the items I wore the most:

The black destroyed jeans I wore 12 times, the golden shoes 9 times and the blue jeans 6 times.

These are the items I wore the least:

The striped dress and the white V-neck shirt I have only worn once and the denim skirt to my own surprise, I haven’t wear at all.
One month was over very fast but I am loving this and can´t wait to see if I can keep it up two more months.

Next week more updates, check my last week updates here and here.

How To Style A Bomber Jacket

The times that I find the coolest second hand clothes, is when I go with an empty  idea of what I want to find.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a charity shop to bring away some things and I stopped by at the clothes section. There I found it. A black oversize bomber jacket. I saw it, immediately tried it on and it felt like in the movies! You have to understand that I come from Barranquilla, Colombia and I never wore a jacket there like this before. The weather was just too hot for that. Now that I live in The Netherlands, I love that I can wear all kind of clothes and finally have my own black bomber jacket.

The next time you go to a charity shop, don´t be scare to check the clothes section. You never know what treasure you might find! Give it a try and show me your finds  😉

Thrifting Lover

I love to go thrifting because I never know what I might find. It is always an adventure. This time I found this amazing red, black and golden blazer/jacket. Normally I wouldn’t buy these kind of items, out of fear, not daring to wear it. But as soon as I saw it in the charity shop I fell in love with it and decided to give it a try. This jacket even reminded me of a ‘Michael Jackson kind of style’. I took it home and realized that it would be easier to combine it than I thought. I can wear it with a t-shirt, a blouse or a tank top. Going to secondhand shops is a good thing to help you to get out of your fashion comfort zone. Give it a try and show me your finds 😉
