Favorite Eco-Products From May

Since I started to care more about the products I use, I have been collecting different eco-brands and trying them out. Every month on this new blog series, I will show you my favorite products. It’s time to promote the best eco-friendly products which are encouraging us to think a little greener about our consumption and to protect the environment. Here are the products I tried in May:

Natural deodorant

Creme deodorant from The Ohm Collection
Last year, I discovered this Dutch brand and I have been a fan since. I tried their powder deodorant ‘no sweat’ and like it a lot. This spring they released a new line of creme deodorants, I immediately wanted to try it out. I chose the smell of orange blossom. The ingredients are all certified organic and the oils are all-natural. To use it, you have to twist up, put a drop on your fingertips and apply it on your armpits. You don’t need much: a fingertip will do the job. My experience with this one was very good. I like the soft smell of orange. This deodorant is free of synthetics and aluminum, it’s cruelty-free and vegan.

Washable cloth pads

Sanitary pads from Imse Vimse
These washable pads were my lifesavers during my post-partum time. The pads are made of 100% organic cotton. To use it, you have to place the printed side facing up and wrap it on to your underwear. The pads are very soft and comfortable. When I used them for the first time, I was surprised by the fact that the pads don’t smell so bad as the disposable ones. The pads can be washed in the washing machine at max 60°.

Qnoop sustainable socks

Socks from Qnoop
No more missing socks with Qnoop! Qnoop is an Amsterdam based brand of sustainable socks. The socks have a button in one pair and a loop in the other so that you can tie them and put them in the washing machine without losing them. I have the ‘Glitter Rib’ socks in pink. They are made of certified bio cotton. The button, to tie them, is hand-made of biodegradable material. The socks feel very soft. I like to wear them, to give my outfits an extra touch.

Dream cream Lush

Dream cream hand & body lotion from Lush
Lush makes products with fresh and as much as possible natural ingredients. The products are ethically hand-made and cruelty-free. They have a big selection of vegan products too. This time, I tried the ‘Dream Cream’. The cream feels light and is very good for a dry skin. It has a soft smell of chamomile. I like it because it absorbs quickly into the skin. It leaves my skin with a soft and smooth feeling.

It has a nice citric smell and it feels smooth on the skin without feeling greasy or sticky. 5 IMG_9600Weleda pomegranate regenerating body oil
Weleda is a Swiss company that makes organic skin care products. Their products are free of synthetic compounds or toxic chemicals. Instead, they use flowers, fruits, roots extracts, minerals and essential oils. This time I tried the pomegranate regenerating oil and use it on my body. Especially on my belly and on my thighs, where I have a lot of striae. The oil has a light smell and I think it’s perfect for an after shower treat. Pomegranate oil has antioxidant properties that improve the regeneration of the skin.

7 IMG_9605Matt lipstick from Alverde
You got me. Lipsticks are my guilty pleasure. I love to combine them as part of my outfits. From pink to red, to purple. I like to wear them in all the shades. For me, it’s important to only use lipsticks with natural and organic ingredients. That’s why I use the ones from Alverde, a natural cosmetics brand from Germany. You can find it at any DM pharmacy store. These creamy matt lipsticks I use, are made of sunflower, jojoba and mimosa floral wax. They are easy to apply and give the lips a chic matt appearance that lasts long.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found where to buy these products in The Netherlands. I often go to Germany and never miss to visit DM shop. If you are interested in some products, I could bring some extra next time :).

Favorite Eco Products From January

Since I started to invest more in the eco-products I use, I have been collecting different brands and trying them out. Every month on this new blog series, I will show you my favorite products. It’s time to promote the best eco-friendly products which are encouraging us to think a little greener about our consumption and to protect the environment. Here they are:

On the rocks ‘first times diary’. I am a big fan of writing a diary. I got this book as a Christmas present and fell in love right away. The specialty of this book is that the sheets are made from stone paper instead of normal paper. The stones they used for the paper come from mines. The color of the stones is the color that the paper will take on. Don’t be discouraged when the sheets don’t look crispy white. What I love about this: there is no water needed in the production of this paper. Cool right? 😉

Dr. Bronner’s all-one toothpaste. Made with organic ingredients. This paste is the most natural I have tried. It has no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or sweeteners. The tube where it comes is made from 100% recyclable materials. I like the taste and how fresh and clean it leaves my breath.

Naif face cleanser. I am a big fan of products that are as natural as possible. I even use often fruits and veggies from the kitchen to clean my skin. While searching for baby skin care products I discovered Naif. They make products with no-nonsense ingredients for babies and for babes! I felt curious to try their products out and got the cleanser. The ingredients are mostly natural oils. Which make the skin very soft. I like the light smell and the fact that I can feel that it has no harsh chemicals in it. I’m very happy with this cleanser and I’m looking forward to starting using their baby products!

Seepje washing nuts. These nuts are an all-natural product to wash your clothes with. I started using them last year, and still, I’m a big fan. I like to use natural products and soaps without SLS as much as possible. These nuts are just perfect. You can reuse them three times and afterward, you can throw them away in the green container. If washing your clothes with nuts feels too crazy for you, Seepje has normal washing liquid for the clothes as well. The liquid comes in a recycled bottle and is also SLS-free and is made with natural ingredients.

Dentatabs for brushing my teeth. I discovered this tabs last year while I was doing a plastic diet. They come in a paper bag but I store them in a mason jar. To use the tabs, you need to put one in your mouth and chew on them a little bit and start brushing your teeth. The tabs are made in Germany with all-natural ingredients. You can find them with and without flour. Read more about the tabs here:  https://www.bag-again.nl/product/denttabs-tand-tabletjes/?v=796834e7a283

I added two different toothpaste on my list because I use them both. I mostly use the tabs, but when I want a stronger fresh feeling, I use the toothpaste of Dr. Bronner’s.

5 ETHICAL, ECO & VEGAN SHOES FOR THE WINTER

Leather alternative quality shoes it is a relatively new product which makes it difficult to find in regular shops. Luckily I found the Dutch webshop “En-&“. The owner: Laura, started the webshop where she only sells eco and vegan shoes. For her, it’s important to wear fashionable shoes, that no animal was needed to be the harm in the process. If you are looking for a more sustainable pair of shoes, then En& is the place to be. After checking out their current collection, I listed out my favorite pairs for you:

1. Bline black or brown

Made from microfibers with a special “leather” look. The microfibers are made from a combination of nylon, cotton, and polyester. The material is OEKO-TEX certified which guarantees that the production don’t make any waste of water or energy. Microfibers are as tough as leather and less prejudicial to the environment.

SKIN CARE PRODUCTS I USE FROM THE KITCHEN

The largest organ in our body is the skin. It absorbs most of what it comes in contact with. The majority of store-bought beauty products have artificial colors, fragrances, preservatives and stabilizers that gets absorbed through the skin’s pores right into the bloodstream. These products cause a range of negative long-term health effects. Skin sensitivity, allergic reactions, hormonal imbalances, cancer… the list of side effects and reactions to these chemical ingredients is long and scary. Not to mention the negative impact the production and the waste of these products have on the environment.
Last year I became more aware of the beauty products I use and decided to start using more natural ones. I even started making some of them myself.

Today I share with you the products I use for my face:

Argan oil: As a makeup remover and moisturizer. I first wet a reusable makeup pad, then put some drops of the argan oil and then I rub it in my face. It leaves my skin clean from makeup and at the same time it moistures it.

Apple cider vinegar: As a cleanser and toner. I dilute it with water and rub it on my face after I removed my make up.

Baking soda: Once per month as a deep cleanser mask. Baking soda is a good exfoliating agent that helps to remove dead cells. It also balances the pH level of the skin and it has antibacterial, antifungal, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. To make the mask I mix one tablespoon of baking soda with some drops of fresh lemon juice, just enough to make a paste. Then I add a couple of drops of wether argan or almond oil. I apply the paste to my face and let it for one minute, then I rub it off using my fingers and lukewarm water.

Coffee grounds: As a daily body scrub. I make it myself by mixing one cup of coffee grounds, one cup of organic sugar, 1/2 cup organic coconut oil and some drops of vanilla essential oil. Coffee and coconut oil are rich in antioxidants, which are very beneficial for the skin. I use it on my face and on my body.

Papaya and sugar face mask from Apsara Skin Care: Once per week as an exfoliator. This facial mask is made with natural ayurvedic ingredients. It has papaya extract, turmeric, and raw sugar which gently loosen dead skin cells so that they can be easily washed off.

Sun safe from The Ohm Collection: As sunscreen. I use it in the summer and for example when I go to Colombia (where I come from). The ingredients are certified organic and from natural essential oils.

Skin care products
These are the skincare products I use for my face. The chariTea bottle is where I store the vinegar.

Next week, I´ll be sharing the products I use for my hair. Stay tuned!

Alisson

JUNE FAVORITES FROM BLUR

Blur is a new storyteller store located in Amersfoort. Rianne and Sanne started the shop with the mission of bringing sustainable product makers together. I have the pleasure to join their mission and since last month I started working in the shop.
On this favorites series, I am showing you my top 5 favorite products of the month: June

1. Candles poured in recycle wine bottles by Munio Candela

2
These candles are poured in wine bottles collected from restaurants. The ingredients are all-natural making it non-toxic! They use vegetable wax that comes from the oil of soybeans and is scent with natural fragrances like dry flowers. The packaging is from recycled unbleached cardboard. Once the candle is is empty, you can reuse the container as a glass or a vase. The candles are made in Latvia.

2. Hair brushes made out of responsible wood

4 IMG_7961

Evo makes professional brushes and combs for all hair types, styles, and lengths. The brushes are made of wood from well-managed forests and natural rubber. The bristles are from nylon, ionic pins or from wild boar hair.  (This last one is not vegan). The “Conrad”. “Tyler” and “Bruce” brushes are not vegan, but all the rest is. These brushes help towards hair growth, adds shine, cleans hair and among other benefits, it helps to spread the natural oils through the hair. This is great if you are a no-pooer ;). Evo is a brand from the UK.

3. Juulry: Jewelry made in Amsterdam

5 IMG_8331

The minimalistic necklaces are made by an Amsterdamer woman name Juul Evers. This series above is made with marble and the chains are made of brass with a layer of gold. Juul makes also another kind of minimalistic necklaces and earrings but this marble series is my favorite.

4. Bags made out of vegan leather

3 IMG_7951

Denise Roobol is a fashion designer from Rotterdam. She makes high-quality bags using high-tech vegan materials coming from the surroundings of Hong Kong, an area that has the lead in developing high-quality vegan materials. By the usage of this new material, she encourages others that it is definitely possible to have fashionable vegan products. I am currently saving for the “Day & Night” bag in the sand color.

5. 100% natural shampoo bar

1 IMG_7944

This block of soap is a natural alternative to regular shampoo. The soap is handmade and takes about as long as two bottles of shampoo. Since last year I am a No Pooer. I wrote about it here and here. I use natural shampoos and avoid these two ingredients: SLS and SLES. If you are new to the no poo, your scalp needs some time to get used to this shampoo alternative and might feel greasy on the top the first few times, it will all disappear with the time and your hair will start looking amazing.

I hope you like my selection of products and if you are ever in Amersfoort, come by and say hello! The address is Mooierstraat 18 3811 EB.
See you soon?
